Fantastic modern jazz feat. virtuoso guitarist Eef Albers!

I don’t know how many people will happen upon this album or review, but if you like jazz/fusion or modern jazz, this is top of the heap! Bassist/leader Koos Wiltenburg and guitar hero Eef Albers both teach at conservatories in the Netherlands. Eef was also Jan Akkermans replacement(along w/ Belgian Philip Catherine)when Jan left Focus (Hocus Pocus). This cd also feat. sax great Leo Janssen. Koos wrote most of the tunes, Eef a couple, and one standard. They are all interesting, and Eef and Leo are as good as anyone out there. I have heard Eef referred to as “the Dutch Pat Metheny”, but I feel this is unfair as Eef is very original and certainly one of the best guitar players in the world. He is featured on most cuts here and he is just killin’! Interesting intervallic ideas, great chords and substitutions, blinding speed (occasionally) but always w/ a bluesy touch, great bends and tone, just world class. Koos is a great anchor and the bass and drums allow sax and guitar to fly off to frightening heights. I urge you to buy this album if you love good straight ahead jazz or jazz fusion! They just released a new cd called “Hands On” and that is just as good or better.
